Recognition at the IFCM 5th Choral Competition

Vera Ivanova's "High Up!" for SSA choir and piano, commissioned by the Howard Hanson Institute for American Music in Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Eastman School of Music, received a special recognition at the Fifth Choral Composition Competition held by International Federation for Choral Music.

Eastman Centennial Commission Premiered!

Eastman Treble Choir, directed by Philip Silvey, premiered my new work "High Up!" at Kilbourn Hall (Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY). This work was commissioned by the Howard Hanson Institute for American Music in Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Eastman School of Music.

Multiple Grammy-nominated pianist Nadia Shpachenko recorded my pieces "6 Fugitive Memories" for her CD "Quotations and Homages," which will be released on April 6, 2018 with Reference Recordings (FR-726).

New works composed at Kimmel Harding Center for the Arts

I was lucky to be selected for a residency at the http://www.khncenterforthearts.org/ in January 2016, where I composed two new pieces: "Time is" for SSA choir and piano for Colburn Concert Choir and "Skyward" for Qudi, Sheng, Guzeng and Erhu for Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra (both works are listed here in "Works" tab). I also edited my piece for bass violin and koto "Surface Tension" and created a new version for viola and bass koto.

The UCROSS Foundation Residency

I was selected for the residency at the UCROSS Foundation, where I will be working on two compositions scheduled for premieres in November 2015 on Saint Petersburg's 26th Soundways Festival and the 37th Moscow Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music.

MTAC 2015 Convention

This year I am attending 2015 MTAC Convention in San Jose with my student who won the MTAC State Composers Today Competition. I was selected by my home branch (MTAC OC) to receive a free registration as a first-year attendee!

Student accomplishments

After being a member of MTAC for just a year and submitting my composition student's music for MTAC State Composers Today Competition and MTAC OC Branch Composers Today competition received great news: my student won the First Prize in a category for high-school students in BOTH competitions, in addition to becoming a finalist with The ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award earlier this year.

Presentation at Composition in Asia Festival and Symposium at University of South Florida

Just gave a presentation at the Composition in Asia Festival and Symposium at University of South Florida, titled Discovering Non-Western and Western Instrumental Combinations in my Composition for Violin and Bass Koto “Surface Tension”. It was great to present to such an interesting crowd of colleagues, students, and to see so many familiar from my Eastman days faces!

CD release of "Three Studies in Uneven Meters," a winning composition at 2013 Earplay Donald Aird Composers Competition

My Three Studies in Uneven Meters won the 2013 Earplay Donald Aird Composers Competition and soon will be released on Navona Records on the ALLUSIONS album in Fall 2013. "Three Studies" will receive a performance by Earplay at the closing concert of its 2013-2014 season on May 19th, 2014 in ODC Theater (San Francisco, CA).
